Global Labor Market Outlook (Part 1)

The global recession has strongly worsened labor market conditions in many countries. Equally noticeable is the large variation across countries in the change in labor market conditions in the last three years. Most advanced countries and Eastern Europe have experienced a large increase in unemployment rates during the past three years. On the other hand, Germany had a lower unemployment rate in 2011 than it did before the recession. Due to faster growth, countries in emerging Asia and Latin America were also more likely to have experienced an improvement in labor market conditions during this period.
