There is no perfect organizational design: All organization structures have upsides and downsides. Companies must select the design that best supports strategy. Effective organization design starts with a root-cause analysis of the present format’s shortcomings to ensure attention to the fundamental issues and an analysis of current results versus those desired to drive the redesign process. To devise and implement an effective approach to organizational change, managers need to take into account all of the components of organization and their interrelationships with each other and with corporate strategy.
