Investments in Intellectual Property: New Footprints in Macroeconomic Data

Earlier this year the U.S. GDP figures were overhauled to treat expenditures on R&D and  artistic and long-lived entertainment originals as investment. A new subcategory of investment called intellectual property products also was created. This report explains the impact of these moves on U.S. GDP and national investment and why it was important to make them.
