Biography

Weijia (Vivian) Chen

Vivian Chen is an Economist at The Conference Board. She received her undergraduate degree from Fudan University in China and her Ph.D. in economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States. Her ongoing research at The Conference Board focuses on rising wages and unit labor cost in China. The former project aims at analyzing wage structure in China and evaluating China's competitive advantage in labor cost. The latter work centers on comparing the competitiveness of Chinese industries based on estimates of productivity, labor compensation and unit labor cost by manufacturing industry and province in China. Her working papers include Rising Wages in China, Labor Compensation, Productivity and Unit Labor Cost in Chinese Provinces, The Cost Competitiveness of the Manufacturing Sector in China and India: An Industry and Regional Perspective, Migration Opportunity and Children's High School Enrollment in Rural China, and Participation and Duration of Temporary Rural-Urban Migration in China.
