David J. Vidal
David J. Vidal is senior fellow, The Conference Board Initiative on Sustainability. Since joining The Conference Board in 1997, he has initiated and been responsible for research and program development in corporate citizenship and sustainability, corporate responsibility, corporate philanthropy, community engagement, and corporate security and pandemic preparedness. He led the production of more than 60 studies, reports, newsletters and articles spanning these issues, and served as publisher of Across the Board, now The Conference Board Review®.
Vidal is active in industry leadership activities as a member of the judge’s panel of the CERES Sustainability Reporting Awards, the Newsweek/Daily Beast Green Rankings Advisory Panel, the International Advisory Board of Brazil’s Instituto Ethos, the Giving USA Advisory Council on Methodology, and the U.S. Advisory Council of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Before joining The Conference Board, Vidal was vice president at the Council on Foreign Relations, assistant vice president at Continental Insurance, vice president of The Continental Corporation Foundation, and director of public affairs for the New York City Partnership, a CEO-led civic, housing, and education group. As a special assistant in the U.S. Department of State and the Agency for International Development, and later as a Washington-based consultant, he served in staff and advisory capacities in the Carter and Reagan administrations. As a journalist, he was a correspondent and editor with the Associated Press and the New York Times in New York and throughout Latin America.
Vidal has an AB degree in romance languages and literature from Princeton University and an MBA from Columbia University. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Fulbright Scholar, and a White House Fellow.
