Maureen McGirr

Maureen McGirr is currently Vice President, Ethics, Privacy and Policy within the Global Compliance Organization at Merck & Co., Inc. 

Prior to taking her new role, Maureen McGirr was on Chief Legal Counsel, Strategic Initiatives at MSD in Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. from January 2009 to June 2011. In this role, Maureen was a member of the Japan Executive Committee and provided a legal support for key strategic initiatives including oversight of the legal integration in Japan. During her international assignment, Maureen also assumed interim leadership of MSD's Compliance Organization from January to June 2011. 

In her 20 years of work experience at Merck, Maureen held a number of positions within Merck's Office of General Counsel, including, Managing Counsel in legal supporting the U.S. Human Health, Vaccines and Research divisions.

Prior to joining Merck, she was at the law firm of Arnold & Porter in the firm's litigation and pharmaceutical law practice groups from 1988 to 1993 and also was a litigation associate at Hughes, Hubbard & Reed prior to that time.

Maureen has spoken at a number of pharmaceutical legal conferences on a range of topics and taught pharmaceutical advertising and promotion regulation for a period of five years at St. Joseph's Pharmaceutical MBA program.
