Senior Researcher and Lecturer Institute of Social Ecology in Vienna
Willi Haas is senior researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Social Ecology. He coordinates the thematic area of sustainability support. Research interests are socio-ecological transition processes with focus on questions like how social systems can be guided on pathways towards a more sustainable future and how can we link the questions of sustainability transitions with development issues, institutional analysis, new forms of governance and the empowerment of those directly concerned. Willi Haas worked at the ministry of social affairs (experimental labor market policy, environmental protection and job creation), he was head of the Institute for Applied Ecology and worked in South Africa in the NGO Environmental Monitoring Group (acting director). For ten years he was chairperson of Greenpeace Central and Eastern Europe. Twelve years ago he joined the Institute of Social Ecology and has headed numerous interdisciplinary projects in the field of sustainability studies. The key scientific communities and journals he is concerned with are ecological economics, industrial ecology, transdisciplinarity networks, environmental sociology, ecological anthropology and public health. His teaching is in the field of interdisciplinary research, ecological anthropology, local studies, sustainability and health as well as occupational areas for social ecology.
