Jeff Shockey

Jeff Shockey Director, Corporate Safety for Alcoa, is responsible for developing strategies to improve the company’s global safety performance in its drive toward zero injuries.  As a critical part of that role, he focuses on fatality prevention worldwide for both employees and contractors.


Jeff has 32 years of environmental, health and safety (EHS) experience with Alcoa, having served in both EHS and line management positions.  He joined Alcoa in 1980 as a site safety engineer at Alcoa Technical Center (ATC), the company’s research and development center.  Since then, he has held assignments of increasing responsibility at Alcoa’s Pt. Comfort (Texas) facility, which includes an alumina refinery and chemicals plant, and serving as a corporate staff safety engineer in Pittsburgh, where he provided technical services to Alcoa locations worldwide.


In 1990, Jeff returned to ATC as the site’s EHS manager, and two years later was named corporate manager for Alcoa Safety and Health Compliance and Audit Services.  In 1996, Jeff moved to Tennessee to become the Corporate EHS Director for Alcoa Fujikura, Ltd., a joint venture between Alcoa and Fujikura Ltd. of Japan.  In this position, he had overall responsibility for EHS activities at AFL’s 34 locations and 40,000 employees in 15 countries.  Later, Jeff became location manager for AFL Wire Products, at the time a $100 million manufacturer of wire, cables, tubing and logistical services based in Nashville, TN.  In 2001, Jeff returned to Pittsburgh as director of safety and regional services responsible for providing shared safety services to Alcoa’s North America locations and managing the region’s EHS services staff.  He was promoted to Corporate Safety Director in January 2007.


Jeff holds a BS degree in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and is a past recipient of the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award.  For the past 10 years he has served on the advisory board for the Safety Sciences Department at IUP.  He also serves on the advisory board of Rand’s Center for Health and Safety in the Workplace.  A professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, he is a board certified safety professional in comprehensive practice.


Jeff was born in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1958.  He and his wife, Debra, have two children: Jamie Lee, who lives in Wichita Falls, TX and Austin, a junior safety sciences major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
