Chairman and CEO BBVA
Francisco González has been chairman and CEO of BBVA since January 2000.
González is vice chairman of The Institute of International Finance (IIF) and a member of the European Financial Services Round Table (EFR), the Institut International d’Études Bancaires (IIEB), the Capital Markets Consultative Group of the IMF, the International Monetary Conference (IMC), the International Advisory Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and is a member of the board of trustees of The Conference Board.
Prior to the merger between Banco Bilbao Vizcaya and Argentaria, he was chairman of Argentaria from 1996 to 1999.
Before joining Argentaria, González was founder and chairman of FG Inversiones Bursátiles, a leading securities firm in Spain. He started his own company after qualifying as a licensed broker (placing first in the 1981 class) and acquiring a seat at the Madrid Stock Exchange.
